Noy Takes on DILG: Good Call
I know my views may be limited, but I think theres a bit of the solomonic in Noys decision to hold the DILG for himself for now.
He cant afford to isolate any potential support Binay has made for himself ( whatever, with whoever, and for how much) with the LGUs (and the voting public) and given the numbers that both of them generated on May 10, the worst that Noy can do is to look like inaapi niya yung representative ng mga mahihirap ( yuck) in favor of someone who doesn’t have the same “mandate” pero ka-rancho niya.
On Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay Winning the 2010 Vice Presidential Race
I did not vote for Binay , but like the independent Kiko Pangilinan, his winning ushers in a new definition of winnability.
The Marching Morons that Cause Corruption
While its during big national events or grim national disasters that we inevitably see the general incompetence of our government, I dare say that it is in the day to day, micro events that we see the incompetence of the public in general. And unfortunately it is this incompetence by the general public that opens up the entire process of governance to opportunities for corruption.
Over the past two years an example of this has been unfolding, literally, right in front of my eyes.
Was the Philippine 2010 Election Process Really Valid?
The problem with any process whether IT or manual is that its validity relies not only on old or new technology but whether the implementing agency is trustworthy or not.
For close to a year now the opponents of the automated election systems or AES have been talking about chaos scenarios and how they, as both clean election advocates and IT experts ( and I emphasize their claim to be experts), were 100% sure that the elections would fail. The fail point was not only the technology and the process of implementations but the LOW TRUST FACTOR that they gave the Comelec.
The Election Ballot Folders (non)Issue
Well it seems that the illogicals are at it again.
Screaming bloody murder over the ballot folders, you would think that there was something ANOMALOUS about the whole deal.
From all that I’ve heard there seems to be none. Other than the fact that we will be spending close to a billion pesos (700million odd) there seems to be nothing wrong about the whole deal ( per se).
Lets see what the chain of events that precipitated this purchase:
The Gibo Saga: A Machiavellian Novel
Gibo is caught in a movie plot with themes as old as time.
The Queen gives an unexpected heroic role of General to young idealistic Knight, Sir G, and promises her army as support. She sends the knight out to the hinterlands to fight her biggest battle and filled with idealism ( that justifies betraying his uncles kingdom) Sir G leads the charge against what he thinks is the enemy.
Unbeknownst to the knight, the Queen has made other plans and has forged an alliance with her most vocal enemy.
Presidential Succession
If the Pres, VP, Sen Pres, Speaker, and the SC Presiding Justice went on a cruise and the boat sank, who would be in charge? If the constitutions provision for succession is based on the abhorrence and avoidance of a power vacuum and if the constitution should be treated as a logical, dynamic selection engine, then it should follow a logical path of searching for a replacement among the remaining elected officials.
Of Gibo and Who I Think GMA is REALLY supporting in 2010
Being an open supporter of the Gordon-Bayani (sorry mom!) has allowed me to look at this whole presidential race with a detached eye. In many cases a detached eye leads to blindness but in this case things get a little bit clearer especially as my horse will barely be a finisher ( if he/they make it to the finish line at all…sorry Dick).
Getting ONDOY off my chest
I suppose everyone knows by now that many parts of Metro Manila and other areas outside the city are not in the best of shape.
The flooding still persists in some areas, right now its 240 dead and probably rising, and I think I’m in some sort of empathetic shock over what happened over the last weekend.
This disaster has really showed us all how this government has wasted so much of our money on useless things, held back money for truly important projects, and how much money government officials have stolen for themselves.
Noynoy: The Man WHo Would Be King
Some people refer to certain points in the future as make or break.
Many say that 2010 is make or break.
I believe every day is make or break.
I believe that the future is only a product of the way we have taken our past to influence our present.
1986 was make or break. Every impeachment was make or break. Every scandal we don’t deal with properly is make or break. Every day a petty theft happens with impunity is make or break.
Every day is make or break and in our recent history we have break-ed more than we have make-ed.
